Life-Changing Books – The Four Agreements

The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom
by Don Miguel Ruiz
Non-Fiction
Recommended By: Jodi

Read it. Life-changing. Enough said. Seriously. Really. Read it.

Tried to leave it at that, but let’s face it, I’ve never been known for brevity. This book uses beautiful analogies to describe how the teachings we absorb in our early years define our lives and how we create subsequent limiting ‘agreements’ that color the way we see the world. When I began absorbing this book and the lessons within it, it flipped a switch that shifted the way I viewed the world, and started me on an interesting journey. I can’t promise the same response, but definitely well worth a read.

Exuberant Women Interview Questions

Your name: Sarah Dale-Harris
Your profession: Lawyer
Age: 40
State or Province: Ontario

Website you’d like everyone to visit: YOURS!! And www.ted.com Hans Rosling’s stunning use of stats in his lectures on HIV and poverty worldwide.

How would you describe yourself?

Interested. Kind. Fun. Hard working. Devoted. Willing to take a leap of faith. Would rather try and fail, then never try at all.

What inspires you?

People who do brave and humanitarian things when no one is looking.

What is the bravest thing about you?

In the face of adversity, I draw from within for the strength to push ahead, be dignified and find the positive in the experience.

What do you fear the most?

Being in the dark. My dad used to play the “boogie-man” when I was little and since then, I have never quite gotten comfortable with the dark… just don’t tell my brother…!

What do you wish everyone knew about life?

That life is is so short – every day if a gift. Thank people and tell them how much they mean to you. Don’t let fear be the ruler of you. Live in the present. You can’t change the past, and the future is totally unpredictable – so why fight them? And, that doing brave and kind things when no one is looking is a totally cool thing to do and will give you the most amazing feeling in the world.

What do you think is most exuberant about you?

My passion for travel and meeting new people!!

When are you most proud of yourself?

When I allow myself the space to be proud of myself.

What makes you happy?

Love (all forms of it) and travel (everywhere!).

Is there a woman who has inspired you? If so, please tell us about her.

There are a quite a few actually, but the two who immediately come to mind are:

My mother. She is as beautiful as she is brave. We haven’t always been close, and like me, she isn’t perfect, but she is my very best friend and I love her more than life itself. She also embodies strength and a heroic ability to multi-task – having run a household and a business at the same time. Most of all though, she taught me (and I’m still learning!) how to communicate, be patient, actively listen to others (yes, I had to hold my hand up at the dinner table…), be humble, be fair and that even if I was being naughty, she loved me just the same.

Barbara Frum. When I was much younger I used to watch her on the nightly news with my parents and I thought she was a most amazing, inspiring woman. I wanted to grow up and be just like her. And have her job…

What is Your Favorite Quote?

Sushi as a religion

We thought we’d had sushi before the night we went to Buddakon, but oh, were we wrong; the sushi at Buddakon is a revelation, a pathway to a greater beyond… or at least the best darn sushi we have ever eaten. We have introduced a brand new food group to our ‘must eat’ chart…alas, we’ve now been spoiled for all other imitators. The elevator that squires you to the second floor adds an extra bit of panache to the entire experience too.
